Wii with DVD player a Japan-only feature

Back in the day, the original spec for the Nintendo Wii (at that time is was still the revolution) stated that the new system would come jammed packed with all sorts of features, one of which being a DVD player. This DVD playback feature ended up getting cut thanks to readily available cheap standalone DVD players.

Well now Nintendo has released information stating that next year they will be shipping an updated version of the Wii in Japan that will in fact have DVD playback functionality.

Nintendo has also said there are currently no plans to release this updated Wii in the States or Europe.
